Sometimes we miss what’s right in front of us. The beauty of the sunrise or sunset. The blue skies, trees, mountains, and rivers. The people around us who we love and care about. In our hectic lives, we may need a wake-up call to appreciate what we have and to change the direction we are going. It can be the dead-end job or the failing relationship we need to change. It can also be our family and friends, our career or accomplishments that we need to appreciate.
One thing that helps success be infinitely sweeter is love. Sometimes success is accomplished without love and this often leads to a feeling of hollowness, emptiness, and even despair. This is the person at the top who, while appearing to have everything, feels empty inside or loses relationships because they have not loved deeply along the way. So, it’s important that as you work hard to accomplish your goals and to succeed in life you do three things:
- Have appreciation and gratitude for what you have no matter how much or how little you perceive it to be.
- Take the time to pause and celebrate your successes and victories no matter how big or small.
- Practice loving more deeply!
The more you consistently practice these three research-based steps, the more positive, hopeful and loving your life will become, as this strengthens the neural circuitry associated with positive emotions and bonding with others.
We can love more deeply and we don’t have to start big. Love more deeply inch by inch. It’s so easy to get caught up in our worries and fears that we often forget to take a deep breath, exhale, relax deeply, take a look around and realize that life is precious, that we are still alive; and that while we are alive and breathing there is hope. In this four-minute video clip, Al Pacino (in the movie “Any Given Sunday”) has realized that he is losing some of the most important things in his life because he has not loved deeply enough. This realization transforms him and the video clip picks up after this realization, as he delivers a heartfelt and inspiring message to his team.
